DTC stands for Diagnostic Trouble Code. A DTC consists of three characters preceded
by an alphanumeric designator. The alphanumeric designators are B0-B3, C0-C3, P0-P3
or U0-U3.
Designator B0-B3 denotes "Body". It covers codes that are related to passenger's
assistance, comfort, convenience and safety.
Designator C0-C3 denotes "Chassis". It covers codes about mechanical systems such
as brakes, steering and suspension.
Designator P0-P3 denotes "Powertrain". It covers codes that include engine, transmission
and associated drivetrain accessories.
Designator U0-U3 denotes "Network and Vehicle Integration". It covers network electrical,
network communication, network software, network data and control module/power distribution.
There are two kinds of DTCs: Generic and Manufacturer Specific DTCs. Generic DTC
is used by all manufacturers and manufacturer specific DTC is for a specific make. |
